CROSS COUNTRY
Yearning for some tranquil moments, following trails among the silence
of snow-covered trees?
At Christina Lake, individuals and groups cross-country ski on many sections of the Trans-Canada
Trail, plus the trails in the Community Park along
the western shore of the lake. Ask your accommodation
provider for more information on how to reach our many winter wonderland
tracks.
Try some nearby cross-country ski club trails in the beautiful boundary
area:
Paulson Cross-Country Ski Club: 57 km east of Christina Lake, adjacent
to Nancy Greene Provincial Park. 45 km of trails have been developed by
the BC Forest Service in cooperation with the Castlegar
Nordic Ski Club. Click here to see a map of the trails.
Phoenix Cross-Country Ski Club: 55 km west of Christina Lake, turn off
Hwy 3 at the Phoenix Ski Hill sign. Wonderful trails - just follow
the posted map. Stop off to warm up at the dacha (cabin) by the viewpoint
.
The sport can be as strenuous or gentle a workout as you desire. You will
definitely be satisfied, surrounded by beauty at Christina Lake.

Ski and Board among the snow ghosts!
Christina Lake has the good fortune of being situated halfway between
two great ski hills. Red Mountain Ski Resort to the east and Phoenix ski
hill to the west. Visitors not only include the populations of Rossland
and Trail, but many people who come from around the world. All have fallen
in love with this little-known skier's paradise.
Red Mountain Ski Resort
Red
Mountain Ski Resort is a forty-five minute drive from Christina Lake
along a well-maintained highway corridor, no winding dirt roads to this
ski area.
Two mountains make up the ski terrain which is accessed by three triple
chairs, one double chair, and a t-bar. With over 1200 acres, and 2900
vertical feet, there is a lot to explore. The longest run is nearly five
miles! It is an old-time ski area with an old time flavour. Visitors in
the winter not only include the town population of Rossland and Trail,
but many people come from around the world. All fallen in love with this
little-known skier's paradise.
Along with fantastic terrain and deep snow, the hill boasts short lift
lines, long vertical descents, and a network of over 89 established runs
(over 80% of which is rated expert). Skiers and boarders can expect to
share most runs with few others and will find their legs burning at the
end of the day.
Red Mountain ski area is famous for its tree and glade skiing. It was
recently rated the number one resort in the world for the hardcore skier
or snowboarder by Snow Country Magazine. Skiing Magazine listed Red Mountain
in its top ten powder skiing resorts of North America.
Phoenix Ski Hill
Phoenix Ski
Hill is a great little ski hill that is only about a 45 minute drive
west from Christina Lake.
This ski hill is great for a day of family fun with the kids or for the
novice skiier or boarder. There are 10 runs (not including the backside)
and about 800 feet elevation gain.
The hill is owned by a non-profit organization and run mostly by volunteers.
There is a t-bar to get you to the top of the mountain and a tow-rope
for the bunny hill. A warm chalet and concession await you at the bottom
of the hill.
For inexpensive family fun this hill can't be beat. |
