KAYAKING & CANOEING
CHRISTINA LAKE

Offers superb kayaking and canoeing. Enjoy the tranquil warm water and numerous sandy beach sites at the north end. (part of Gladstone Provincial Park) Paddle up to see the 8 foot diameter cedar trees or watch the spawning Kokanee in the Fall. Try your luck fishing for bass while exploring the native petroglyphs along the shore.

Christina Lake is surrounded by some amazingly beautiful creeks and rivers which offer great opportunities for kayaking and canoeing. Check with WildWays for information, rentals and guided kayaking trips.

CHRISTINA CREEK

The outflow creek for Christina Lake, the creek meanders along and is a great place for wildlife viewing. The nesting waterfowl and fish are best appreciated from a small kayak.

KETTLE RIVER

A gentle moving river which warms up in the summer to become a fine destination for a lazy afternoon paddle. This river boasts numerous private beaches, fine fishing for trout and whitefish, and scenic views of the surrounding meadows and mountains. Closer to Christina Lake are some mild rapids which you can take a guided trip upon, or challenge on your own if you have some experience.

GRANBY RIVER

The Granby merges with the Kettle River at Grand Forks, just 15 minutes from Christina Lake. At the top of the Granby is Granby Park, a pristine wildlife reserve with ancient cedars and crystal clear water running from its old-growth forests. It is surrounded by the tallest peaks in the Boundary region.

An eight km paddle starting close to the park ends up in a 4 km class 4 canyon which will reward the best paddlers with its beauty and clarity of water. Further down river and closer to town are tranquil floats to be enjoyed by canoeists. There is even a white water play park just 5 minutes from town.

SLOCAN RIVER

About a 1 hour drive from Christina Lake, offers a thrilling class 3+ section which you can take an inflatable kayak down. A local outfitter is available. Check with WildWays for bookings.

KOOTENAY RIVER -- BRILLIANT HOLE

Site of the 2000 World Team Trials whitewater rodeo, this hole offers expert paddlers one of the best rodeo features in western Canada. 45 minutes from Christina Lake.

COLUMBIA RIVER -- HERO HOLE

The one hour drive is well worth it for this hole, site of the ’97 Kootenay Kayak Festival. Experts only.
