Lake Living - Community Profile
Elevation:
462.3 m (1516.7 ft)
Population: 1435 permanent residents
(from 2006 census)
Christina Lake is located half
way across the southern edge of the province, just north of the British
Columbia-Washington border. Christina Lake is considered part of the Boundary
Country, the area of the province nestled between the Okanagan Valley
and West Kootenay Valley regions; geographically defined by the Kettle
River Valley and the Monashee Mountains. Location and climate are two
of the main attractions of the Boundary Country. Lush valleys, clear mountain-fed
streams, clean lakes and hectares of wilderness create enormous opportunities
for recreation. Plenty of sunshine, four full seasons, and mild temperatures
make the Boundary Country an ideal environment for those who love the
outdoors.
Christina Lake has a permanent population of 1456 residents. In the summer
months this number dramatically increases as an influx of tourists and
summer residents raises the lake's population to more than 6000 people.
Tourism and associated recreational activities play a large role in the
local economy. Christina Lake is known as the warmest tree-lined lake
in Canada. The lake is 18.13 km (11.26 miles) long; swimming, water-skiing,
canoeing, kayaking, windsurfing, scuba diving, boating and para-sailing
are just some of the ways to enjoy the lake. The Christina Lake village,
Provincial Park, and Public Beach are located at the south end of the
lake. Privately owned and operated campgrounds, cabins and RV parks are
bustling throughout the summer months. Motels operate year round and are
modern, clean and comfortable. Popular hiking & mountain biking trails,
including the Trans-Canada Trail and KVR, attract thousands of outdoor
enthusiasts annually. The north end of lake is accessible by hiking or
boat only; Gladstone Provincial Park protects much of the northern lake
shore and surrounding wilderness.

Community Hall - (top of

90 Park Street
Tel: (250) 447 9251
The Christina Lake Community Hall is a central hub of the Christina Lake
Community. First built in 1948, with major renovations in 2000, it is
a charming community center, with
hardwood flooring and a gorgeous view of Christina Lake. Much of the work
to initially build and renovate the community hall was completed by volunteers,
showing the wonderful community spirit here at Christina Lake. The financing
for the renovation in 2000 was also thanks to funding from a Community
Spirit Grant.
The community hall hosts events such as town meetings, bazaars, community
dinners and dances, bridge and youth clubs, seminars and conferences,
birthdays, weddings and funeral services. The hall is also the home of
the Christina Lake Stewardship Office, the Christina Lake Waterworks Billing
Office and two church congregations; United and Catholic services are
both held at the hall. Even during our quiet
winter season, the hall is in use most nights of the week, and the parking
lot at the community hall is oftenpacked. Facilities include a large hall,
two smaller conference rooms, a bar, full kitchen and washrooms.
The community hall is located on Park Street, across from the tennis courts
and next to the baseball diamond. A concrete slab was recently installed
next to the hall for skateboarding and other local youth activities.
